Scharosch

Scharosch bei Fogarasch (Şoarş) – the village among the hills.

The first documented mention dates back to the 11th century, when it was recorded that 30 Saxons populated the area and built a basilica.

Several centuries later, the region was occupied by the Turks and the small church was burned down. Nevertheless, the Saxons did not leave the village. In the 15th century they spent nearly 100 years building a fortified church in which the entire village could take shelter during Ottoman raids. The evangelical church and its walls survived many wars and incursions until 1900, when the ring walls were demolished by the municipality.

The church, the bacon tower, and the old school have survived the many changes.
