Schäßburg
Schäßburg (Sighișoara) is an inhabited fortified town dating from the second half of the 12th century. The Bergkirche (Church on the Hill) in Schäßburg possesses an impressive collection of altars from abandoned Saxon congregations of the Schäßburg church district. A second important collection consists of old chest-type coffers from the 16th century, which originate from the fortified church of Henndorf.
Among the many attractions of the Bergkirche is the accessible crypt — the only one in Transylvania — and the German cemetery with its vaults (the Sternheim vault) and beautifully crafted gravestones.
